PANANTI (Filippo) Narrative of a residence in Algiers, comprising a geographical and historical account of the regency; biographical sketches of the dey and his ministers; and observations on the relations of the Barbary States with the christian powers, by Signor Pananti, of Florence. London, Colburn, 1830. In-4; illustrated with a color frontispiece and 2 black plates. ½ burgundy long-grained morocco with filleted corners, slightly oiled spine, gilt title and fillets, rubbing to boards, wear defects. Pananti was captured by Barbary pirates and sold into slavery. After being ransomed, he provided this detailed account of the country and its inhabitants. Provenance; Printed bookplate Henry B.
