Most of the Chinese, Korean and Japanese ceramics come from private French collections, including those of Rivière himself, the famous connoisseur Raymond Koechlin, the antique dealer Garbis Kalebdjian and the couturier Jacques Doucet. This work follows Rivière's similar study of Islamic art, La Céramique dans l'art musulman (1913), and is just as beautifully produced, with the plates printed in full color.
