China ALLOM (Thomas) "China Illustrated by Thomas Allom, member of the Institute of British Architects" (handwritten title and on spine). [1845]. In folio: handwritten title and list of plates on endpapers, 64 engraved plates by Thomas ALLOM (vol. 2 only) depicting genre scenes and views of various sites in China. Legends in French, in pencil, at the bottom of some of the plates. Scattered foxing. Contemporary burgundy morocco, ornate ribbed spine, damage to headpieces, rubbing, series of cold fillets and gilt fillets on boards, gilt fillet on edges, interior gilt garland, gilt edges. Allom (1804-1872) is known as the architect of some of Hong Kong's most important buildings. A fine set of finely engraved plates depicting Chinese mores, customs and sites.
