BRULLE (Henri) - Lot 269
BRULLE (Henri)
Russell. Bordeaux, Cadoret, sd.
Large booklet in-8: 8pp. Sent by Raymond d'Espouy "En souvenir d'Henri Brulle" (September 1936).
Bradel-style burgundy cardboard signed MONTECOT, gilt title on spine, publisher's cover preserved. A fine copy.
Tribute from the disciple to the master, moving evocation of the Gavarnie of the golden age "this Gavarnie where Russell reigned and which died with him", of the host of the Vignemale caves: "there were obligatory rites, and above all, when ladies were there, an etiquette. Eleven o'clock punch and sunrise were always de rigueur".
The young amateur photographer, son and disciple of the winner of the couloir de Gaube, followed in his father's footsteps from an early age. His sudden death during the Great War left a despondent Henri Brulle, who left the Pyrenees and his memories behind for good, and set his sights on Mont Blanc.
Extract from Bulletin de la Section S.-O. du Club Alpin Français (1ère série, n°1, July 1909).
