CADIER (George)
Au Pays des Isards - Un Grand Pic Marmuré ou Balaïtous (le Massif de Batlaytouse) - With a preface by the comte de SAINT-SAUD. Osse en Aspe, l'auteur ; Lezay ; libr. Canon, 1913.
Small square in-8: 246pp, 1f, 121 plates out of text (mostly photographic reproductions) and a folding map out of text in fine. Author's autograph letter to Maurice Heïd.
½ 20th century marbled basane, ornate ribbed spine, publisher's red cover preserved, gilt head.
First edition of the 3rd part of "Au Pays des Isards" by the CADIER brothers, written by "one of the Cadier brothers", who is Georges. The illustrations in the text are all "borrowed" from BOUILLÉ, MEILLON and BERALDI.
Georges CADIER, spokesman for the tribe of five brothers, was particularly attached to this Balaïtous. While trying to reach the peak from the east, they were hampered by the Costérillou tower. Having found a way around it, Georges set out alone to top this magnificent gendarme, and the "provocative obelisk" was defeated in 1913 and renamed "Tour Georges Cadier" half a century later (Labarère 326).
