DUNOUAU (Olivier) - Lot 327
DUNOUAU (Olivier)
Salmon fishing in the Lower Pyrenees. Pau, Marrimpouey, 1925.
Small in-8: 78pp, 5f. (including advertisement); numerous photos in text.
Stapled, illustrated pale green paper cover.
Rare and excellent work, the first of its kind on fishing for the great migratory fish in Béarn. Places are carefully reviewed. In addition to his functions as president of the "Gaule Paloise, Société pour la protection du Poisson dans les Basses-Pyrénées" and "Membre du Comité Départemental de la Pêche fluviale", he ran a fishing tackle factory in Bizanos, under his name and trademark "Kiatir", which was apparently founded at the beginning of the war, and published a catalog of its products for the 1925-26 season (there don't seem to have been any before that date, but after?). He was a key player in the protection of salmon and rivers. President of the fishing society, he warned against poaching and non-compliance with the law. He was also the project manager for a fish farm inaugurated in 1932. DUNOUAU is the author of two other booklets entitled "Le Saumon dans le Gave de Pau", Pau, Lescher-Moutoué, 1929 (16pp.) and "Le Saumon dans les Basses-Pyrénées, Administration et Baros", Pau, V. Marrimpouey aîné, 1924 (8pp.), both very rare, especially the latter.
