FIRMINHAC (Jean Jacques) abbé The Pyrenees. Bordeaux, Dupuy & comp. 1854. In-8: 2f. (preface), 204pp. Scattered spotting. ½ period green chagrin, smooth spine decorated with rocaille-style long irons. Monsieur le curé has a firm hock and wields verse as well as a walking stick. He visits all his confreres and, between two villages, climbs to the top of the most accessible mountains. A rare work. Born in Estaing in 1798, he was a seminarian in Bordeaux. He was successively parish priest at Sauternes in 1825, Ambarès in 1829 and Sainte-Eulalie de Bordeaux in 1857. In 1866, he retired to Ginolhac, near Entraygues, where he died in 1880. He was an honorary canon of Rodez and Tours, a knight of the Order of Isabella "la Catholique", and a member of the Société des Lettres, Sciences et Arts de l'Aveyron. Abbé FIRMINHAC published several works, notably of poetry.
