FROSSARD (Emilien Benoît Daniel) pastor - Lot 355
FROSSARD (Emilien Benoît Daniel) pastor
Geological journey on the Chemin de Fer du Midi. Part one. Line from Toulouse to Bayonne and its branches towards the Pyrenees. Bagnères, Cazenave, 1873.
In-12: XII, 106pp. Wet stamp, Tarbes seminary (double).
Bradel-style burgundy boards, gilt title throughout on lightened spine, publisher's beige cover preserved.
This is the only part published. Labarère only mentions the "Guide du Géologue dans les Pyrénées Centrales" by the same author, published in 1858. Very interesting development of certain parts of the Guide du Géologue (Notice nécrologique d'Émilien FROSSARD, par VAUSSENAT, - Bulletin de la Société Ramond 1881, page 149).
Rare and certainly unique example of a specialized scientific guide. The title is ill-chosen, and there is no mention at all of railroads, and even less of pure geology. Explorers are asked to put on their iron shoes and go "mineralogizing" on the summits of Nethou, Vignemale or Cabaliros. The last excursion is devoted to the Château d'Abbadia in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
A solid knowledge of the terrain and numerous bibliographical references (Charpentier first and foremost) provide information for the tourist-pyrenist-geologist.
