GUIGOU (Paul) - Lot 379
GUIGOU (Paul) In the Pyrenees. Barcelona, Richardin, Lamm & Cie ; Paris, Lamm, sd. [1892]. In-8, 29pp; photographic reproductions (photographs by Marie Prévotat) in text and 2 out-of-text. Red Bradel-style boards, gilt title throughout, publisher's cover preserved. A fine copy in excellent condition. Text written by GUIGOU during a stay at Eaux-Bonnes, forgotten and supplementing the work Interrupta (which we append to this booklet) published in 1898 by Les Amis de Paul GUIGOU (see François COPPÉE's preface), which brings together all the works of this post-symbolist writer and editorial secretary of La Revue Moderniste. The promising young writer was a regular visitor to Eaux-Bonnes due to "a bad cough" and a fragile state of health; he died very young indeed, at the age of 30 (see Pierre Sarthoulet's article in Pyrénées n° 286, pages 80 and 81). This excursion to the Col du Lavedan was made successively by horse-drawn carriage from Eaux-Bonnes to Gourette; by donkey and mule, from Gourette to Lac d'Anglas; in a mine gallery, from Lac d'Anglas to Lac d'Uzious; in the open air and on foot, from Lac d'Uzious to the Col du Lavedan. Also by the same author: Interrupta. Preface by François Coppée. Frontispiece by M. Puvis de Chavannes. Paris, Plon, Nourrit & Cie, 1898. In-8, ½ tan morocco signed CARAY, smooth spine decorated, gilt frieze throughout with mosaic parts, gilt head.
