Copy of Henri Beraldi then of Abbé Doazan HARDY (Joseph) - BARERE de VIEUZAC (Bertrand) Voyage Pittoresque et Descriptif dans les Hautes-Pyrénées, contenant plusieurs détails sur les Établissements Thermaux de ce Département. Translated from the English, with twenty-four appendices added by B. BARÈRE-de-VIEUZAC. Tarbes, Lavigne, 1839. In 12 : 249pp. Some small scattered spotting. Contemporary glazed blond calf, spine ribbed, gilt fillets, red title page, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, inner lace, gilt edges. Rare, here very well bound and in fine condition. Translation of "Picturesque and Descriptive Tour in the Mountains of the High Pyrenees: comprising twenty-four views of the most interesting scenes, from original drawings taken on the spot; with some Account of the bathing establishments in that department of France", published in London, Ackermann, 1825. BARÈRE played a major role in this work. His appendices occupy pages 127 to 249, i.e. almost half the volume, not counting the footnotes. A scrupulous translator, he was careful to give the original version of his translation of the poetic texts in the notes (Labarère 741). Provenances: Printed ex-libris Henri Beraldi (not listed in the catalog of Henri Beraldi's Pyrenean library) - André Beraldi library - Bibliothèque du chanoine Doazan (sold in 1941 by the Leconte bookshop in Paris).
