In-12: 500pp, 20pp; illustrated with 11 plates hors texte engraved in intaglio, burin and aquatint after LAROCHE and BEAUME, engraved by DAUBIGNY, BUZELOT, MARVY, a fold-out itinerary and a map of postal services in fine. Contemporary black chagrin, smooth spine decorated with long rocaille irons, double series of double gilt fillets framing the boards, gilt fillet on the edges, triple gilt fillet inside, gilt edges. A fine copy. This second edition is uncommonly well illustrated. Each edition has its own illustration and technique: 1841 (5 lithographs by Carpenter); this one in etching; 1863 (woodcuts).
