[OLDMIXON (John)]
A Peep at the Pyrenees by a Pedestrian, in 1823 comprising an account of the watering places; of Toulouse, and direct road to it, through the Limousin and Perigord; and a passage donwn the Garonne to Bordeaux. Paris, Baudry, 1826.
In 16 : 2f., VI-214pp. one folding map.
½ red long-grained morocco with filleted corners signed BOISSON, spine ribbed and decorated, red head.
Very rare first edition. Only five copies are known to date. This "Peep at the Pyrenees" is one of the few English titles to have escaped Duloum, although it is cited by H. Beraldi [Cent Ans, I, 143] and by Labarère no. 38.
A. Dussert's very interesting article on this work, published in the magazine "Pyrénées" in 1982 [N° 132, pp. 269-288], with a partial French translation, is worth reading.
There is also a second edition (published in 1867 in London) with a slightly different title.
