Copy on Japon in midnight blue morocco PEYRET... - Lot 481 - Briscadieu
Copy on Japon in midnight blue morocco PEYRET (Alexis) Countes Biarnes - Dusième Ediciou. Buenos Ayres, Lajouane ; Pau, Principaux Libraires (1890). In 18 : XVI, 56pp. One of 10 first copies on japon (n°4). Midnight-blue morocco signed RANDEYNES, slightly oiled ribbed spine, gilt title, jaws rubbed, gilt fillet on edges, inner lace, gilt head. The first poem, "La Casse deou Rey Artus", was first published in Bayonne, Lamaignère, 1851 (in-8, 39pp.), then in Vignancour's "Poésies Béarnaises". All others are unpublished. The mention of copies on Japon is on the verso of the faux-tittre and does not exist on current copies. The original of PEYRET's tales is from Concepcion del Uruguay, 1870. Alexis PEYRET, a native of Serres-Castet, went on to make his career in South America, where he embarked in 1852. It was HATOULET who encouraged him to write verses in Béarnais, then, once he'd left, it was the death of NAVARROT that prompted him to take up the pen again and write an ode to this friend, as well as the beautiful verses of "Soubénis de Case".
