Edition of 680 copies for the first 2 volumes, 300 for the last 2. 2 pages of volume II with printing defect (ink too pale, almost illegible). ½ fawn shagreened basane, red titles and endpapers on spines, publisher's covers preserved. Excellent publication. "It is so because it saw the birth of the most endearing, the most human of his works, the Carnets Pyrénéens, which he kept from July 1792 to October 1795. He did not publish them during his lifetime, and his grandson was careful not to reveal their existence. They lay dormant in a corner of the Puy-de-Dôme region, where they were rediscovered in the early 20th century and bequeathed to the Musée Pyrénéen in 1921.
