Girdlestone sheds light on these letters: "In the spring of 1823, an inhabitant of Valentine... Roger Lacassagne, sent him (Ramond) a long letter in which he asked him many questions about the Alps and the Pyrenees. RAMOND caught fire at the young man's enthusiasm and admiration, and the result was three long, interesting letters that Lacassagne published in 1834. Interesting in their content; interesting, or at least entertaining, in the way he posed before this new audience" (Girdlestone 368-370).
