RAMOND de CARBONNIÈRES (Louis François Elisabeth)... - Lot 506 - Briscadieu
RAMOND de CARBONNIÈRES (Louis François Elisabeth) baron Travels in the Pyrenees ; containing a description of the principal summits, passes, and vallies. Translated from the french of M. Ramond, by F. Gold. London, Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Browne, 1813. In-8 : VIII, 324pp. Old reformed library copy (stamps crossed out). Contemporary fawn rootskin calf, spine ribbed, red title-piece, bronze author, gilt fillets, restorations to the spines, gilt roulette on the edges, marbled edges. English translation of the "Observations". The 3 copies in our possession belonged to Jean SENMARTIN, Canon DOAZAN and P. CAILLAU-LAMICQ! This is probably the first Pyrenean work to have the honor of being translated into German and then English. Bringing the 3 versions together is a challenge for bibliophiles. The "Observations" will never catch up with TAINE's "Voyage aux Pyrénées", the undisputed Pyrenean record-holder for the number of translations.
