SPONDE (Henry de) Les Cimetières sacrez. Bourdeaux, Millanges, 1598. In-12: 12f., 89f. Light stain at head corner on second part of book. ½ 18th century fawn calf, smooth ornate spine, red title page, scallop irons, limp headpieces, one bit cracked, rubbing on boards, corners dulled, edges speckled red. The author, brother of the poet Jean de SPONDE, came from a Calvinist family and converted to Catholicism in 1595 following King Henri IV. Provenance: Ex-libris printed by Henri Bordes in Bordeaux.
