MANUFACTURE Jules VIEILLARD & Cie IN BORDEAUX SET DESIGN ATTRIBUTED TO Eugène MILLET (1818-1979) Japanese décor, version with enamels in relief, commonly known as the "Large Birds Service", designed around [1882-85] after compositions from the 1870s Rare and very important table service of 135 pieces composed as follows: - 59 large plates - D. 25.5 cm - 18 soup plates - D. 25.5 cm - 35 dessert plates - D. 22.5 cm - 3 footed plates - D. 25.5 cm - 3 compote dishes - H. 12.5 cm - D. 23 cm - 1 sauce boat - L. 24 cm - 1 covered sauceboat - W. 24.5 cm - 2 vegetable dishes - H. 13 cm - D. 25 cm - 2 ramekins - W. 24.5 cm - 1 salad bowl - H. 10 cm - D. 25 cm - 1 soup tureen - H. 20 cm - D. 25 cm - 2 round dishes with rooster - D. 28 cm - 1 round dish - D. 31 cm - 1 fish dish - L. 57 cm - 2 round dishes - D. 34 cm - 1 oval platter - L. 24 cm - 1 oval platter - L. 40 cm - 1 oval dish - L. 43 cm Earthenware proofs with polychrome enamel decorations in light relief on an ivory background; each piece is outlined with a fillet on its wing and/or foot and/or knob and/or border. Many different decorations; some pieces feature a decorative cartouche with Japanese-style characters. Last quarter of the 19th century. Each piece marked with the Japanese-style cachet of the factory in underglaze printing (Ref. Du Pasquier 44 to 46) on the reverse. The sauceboat broken-glued, faienced and stained, the covered sauceboat faienced and stained, the dishes faienced and stained, the drainer of the poison dish broken-glued.
