This author is known for his "Histoire Primitive des Euskariens-Basques" published in 1847 with Belzunce and his "Voyage en Navarre Pendant l'Insurrection des Basques" published in 1836-1865. A native of Tardets, this child prodigy cultivated his taste for linguistics and philosophy with Charles Nodier. He took part in the Carlist War in 1830. Returning to France, he founded the magazine "Ariel" in Bayonne, which got him into trouble. Extremely left-wing, he took part in Bayonne politics around 1848. After the coup d'état of 1851, he had to flee to Spain, where his journal was banned. His publications are varied and full of charm and interest.
