GODBARGE (Henri) Ancient and Modern Basque Arts. Origines, Evolution. Hossegor, Chabas, 1931. Large in-4: VIII, 128pp, numerous in-text illustrations by the author and reproductions of works by Basque artists. One of 150 head copies on Annam (n°101). Paperback, beige 2-tone illustrated cover, good condition. French architect who devoted his career to regionalism; one of the first theorists of the neo-Basque style (villas in Urrugne, around Lake Hossegor (notably a villa for the painter Sourgen), he was a friend of Louis Floutier (whose eulogy he delivered in 1936). Also included: LAFOND (Paul Jean Marie): The French and Spanish Basque Country. Bordeaux, Feret & fils, 1913. In-4, 166pp; numerous photo illustrations in text and black illustrations by the author. Paperback, gray cover printed in red and black, vignette mounted in center in stamped bowl. "Quick description of the most important monuments. Numerous good photographs", to which we would add: excellent photo illustrations elegantly laid out. Paul LAFOND is the curator of the Musée de Pau. The only illustration in his hand in this book is also on the title and cover of "Paysanneries Béarnaises" (Barbe 515).
