"The author, born in Mauléon in 1592..., an emulator of Marca, has been called the "Father of the History of Navarre and Gascony". His work remains one of the best written on the history of this region". None of our valiant publishers had the curiosity or the courage to have it translated and published in French... The author also published in 1625 a "Déclaration historique de l'injuste usurpation et rétention de la Navarre, faite par les Espagnols" (24pp.) and in 1657 "Les Proverbes basques recueillis par le Dr. D'Oihenart, plus les poésies basques du mesme auteur" (Barbe 687 a). Provenance: Printed bookplate from the library of M. A. Colson (Pegasus horse with constellation of stars), wife of M. Malville, owner of "Le Colisée" cinema in Paris. After her widowhood, she met Germaine Dulac, feminist and pioneer of the French film avant-garde in the 20s and 30s. She later married Georges Colston, and founded her own film production company. She amassed a fine library.
