VARIA BASQUE LANGUAGE Set of 4 books: * BONAPARTE (Louis-Lucien), prince: Basque and Finnish languages. London, sme, 1862. In-4: 46pp. and 5 tables on 3 leaves in fine. Printed bookplate Goytino. ½ green basane, gilt title and double gilt fillet framing on green percaline boards. Louis-Lucien Bonaparte (1813-1891), Prince Bonaparte, was a deputy and then senator during the Second Empire, and a philologist specializing in the Basque language. He was fluent in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Basque. He devoted most of his time to Basque. In 1856, the Prince inaugurated a new period in Basque literature with the publication of the translation of Saint Matthew by Emmanuel Inchauspé in Souletin and by Sallaberry Ibarrola in Basque-Navarra. * OMONT (Henri): Catalogue des manuscrits Celtiques et Basques de la Bibliothèque Nationale.
