PALMA - Lot 218
PALMA Representation of a standing, dressed warrior holding an axe in his right hand. He wears an ornate belt, the two ends of which fall on either side of his legs. The aggressive face features a wide-open mouth with protruding teeth and tongue. He wears a feathered headdress or helmet. The ears are pierced at the lobes (one broken). The back of the palma is engraved with a series of volutes forming glyphs. Gray vesicular basalt. The top of the palma is missing. Mexico, state of Veracruz. 450/650 A.D. Height: 47 cm.
