ATTRIBUTED TO Johann-Georg ZIESENIS (1716-1776) Study of the head of an old woman wearing a scarf looking down, after Rubens Original canvas. 53 x 42 cm. (Old restorations and accidents). Bears on the back a recent attribution to Jan Georg Ziesenis; Bears an exhibition label on the reverse of the frame "Collections privées du Villeneuvois, musée Rapin, 1982, n°9 (Gerard Sibelius, Tête de Vieille Femme). Taken from a painting by Rubens' workshop in the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen in Munich (Panel, 49 x 43 cm; see N. Van Hout, Rubens. Study Heads, London and Turnhout, 2020, no. 79, reproduced in color fig. 272). This old woman's face can be compared with the face of Saint Anne in Rubens' composition The Holy Family with Saint Anne in the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh.
