LONDON 1838, ROBERT GARRARD GOLDSMITH COMMEMORATIVE SILVER COVERED BOWL of Medici form, standing on a round base with repoussé decoration of plants and flowers, rounded flutes and oves and foliage. The body is adorned with pinched ribs at the bottom and rich applied laurel garlands at the top, a dedication in the center "Presented to Lt Col Brutton by the officers or the 11th light dragoons on his retiring from the army after a service of 43 years, in testimony of their regard and esteem 1838" and applied military trophies: shields, cuirass, quiver, flags bearing names and dates of battles: Seedaster March 6, 1799, Seringatapam May 4, 1799, Jemalabad September 1799, Bhurtpoor 1804, Hattrass 1817, Kalunga October 31, 1814, Bhurtpoor January 18, 1826. The neck is underlined by a row of ovals and pearls, the double scrolled handles decorated with fillets and foliage resting on heads of helmeted bearded men. The lid is topped by a cast and chased silver rider representing an officer of the Light Dragoons, on a chased terrace, the saddlecloth engraved with the monogram RM surmounted by a closed crown and the numerals XI LD, 5,600 g. Hallmarks on lid and body: city of London, date and RG silversmith, base engraved Garrad Panton street London. Total height 57 cm, width 35 cm. (Missing saber and reeds, a dent on the circumference of the base).
