Together with the method of propagating all forts of vinous fruit-trees And also the right way of making metheglin and birch-wine. London, J. C., 1676. In-8: 13f., 186pp., 3f. ; frontispiece showing workers at presses and 2 plates out of text. First three leaves slightly shorter, spotting, marked passages in margins. A short-margined copy. ½ eggplant chagrin with posterior filleted corners, gilt fillets on smooth spine. First edition. Worlidge In Vinetum Britannicum advocated the production of cider rather than wine in Britain, as it was better suited to the climate and resources. Part I is one of the first books to document the cider-making process in depth, and also the first to discuss the viability of cider as an industry specific to the British Isles and its climate. It contains chapters on fruit growing and the production of fruit-based drinks, including wines, with the largest section devoted to cider, as well as the medicinal properties of various beverages.
