2 volumes large in-8: 4f, XXIV, 416pp; portrait frontispiece and 131 plates out of text, one of which folding (13 etchings, 105 woodcuts and 12 of birds and plants superbly enhanced in watercolor) / 2f, 654pp; portrait frontispiece and 50 plates (including gallery of 13 steel-engraved portraits, including frontispiece, 2 double plates engraved in intaglio, plates out of text in black and 21 plates in color). Some foxing, a few browned leaves.
½ chagrin, eggplant, slightly darkened ribbed spine, cold fillet framing plum percaline boards, slight rubbing, gilt edges.
150 wood- and steel-engraved plates hors texte, with numerous portraits of naturalists (Buffon, Linné, Guy de la Brosse, Fagon, Tournefort, Daubenton, etc.), plans and panoramas of the Garden, 33 colored engravings of flowers, birds, insects and mollusks, and around 600 in-text vignettes. The illustrations are by Gavarni, Harvey, Jacque, Daumier, Delacroix, Grandville and Daubigny, engraved by numerous artists. Texts by Pierre Bernard, Louis Couailhac, Paul Gervais and Emmanuel Lemaout. Complete with 2 volumes.
