In 1852, Jean Bichon put an end to the alliance with Chaigneau and became independent, leaving the ancestral site and setting up on a 10-hectare plot of land on the right bank of the Garonne. His two sons succeeded him at the head of the company from 1861 onwards. On January 9, 1856, a decree granted shipbuilder Chaigneau authorization to build a careening dock near Bacalan. Work began, but was abandoned. Another decree on May 27, 1857 granted the same rights to the Bichon shipyards, but nothing was actually done.
