Diploma or certificate of nobility entitling John Bazely Esquire, captain in the Royal Navy, to use the arms and emblems of his family as the only surviving son of John and grandson James Bazely both of Dover in the county of Kent.
Parchment, 40x50 cm, arms and emblems in gouache colors with family motto. 2 seals intact in their box decorated with a gilded flower, all in a case sheathed in worn leather, opening system broken, interior of dominoté paper.
John Bazely Esquire, captain in the Royal Navy, commanded the HMS ALERT in 1777, capturing the USS LEXINGTON that year. He ended his career as vice-admiral of the Red Squadron.

Translation (automatic translator) of the English text: "To all and singularly to whom these presents should reach Isac Heard Esquire GARTER principal king-at-arms and Thomas Lock Esquire CLARENCEUX king-at-arms of the south-eastern and western parts of England from the river Trent southists send Greetings as John Bazely Esquire Captain in the Royal Navy only surviving son of John and grandson James Bazely both of the Royal Navy.son James Bazely both of Dover in the county of Kent Gentilshommes deceased have represented to the Right Honourable Charles Howard Esquire commonly known as the Earl of Surrey Suty with royal approval to his father the Right Noble Duke Charles Earl Marshal of Norfolk and Hereditary Marshal of England, that he and his ancestors in arms have resided for many generations in the said county of Kent and have used heraldic insignia, but not finding them duly established in the college and not being willing to hear insignia of honors without official permission, he has requested the favor of his lordships mandate that we exemplify and confirm the arms and crest heretofore used by his family with such variations as may be necessary to be worn by him and his descendants and by the descendants of his said grandfather in accordance with the laws of arms and inasmuch as his lordship has by Marrant under his hand and seal bearing date the twenty-second day of April last authorized us to exempt and grant such arms and crest accordingly, Know therefore that we, the said GARTER and CLARENCEUX, by virtue of the consent of the said Deputy Earl Marshal and by virtue of the letters patent of our several offices to each of us respectively granted under the Great Seal of Great Britain, do hereby illustrate and grant to the said John Bazely the following arms, namely Gules on a chevron Or between three battle-axes erect Argent, the staff Or and as many barules wavy Azure, and for the Créat on a coronet of the colors an eagle rising Or in the beak an annulus Sable, as the same in the margin here or more clearly represented, to be borne and used for ever by him, the said John Bazely and his descendants and by the descendants of his said grandfather James Bazely aforesaid with due and proper differences, in accordance with the names of the arms without the set or interruption of any. In witness whereof we, the said Kings of Arms GARTER and CLARENCEUX, have signed our names and affixed the seals of our various offices this sixth day of August in the twenty-fourth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE III by the grace of GOD King of Great Britain France and Ireland Defender of the Faith &c and in the name of our LORD one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four".
