Italy - Rome - Antiques BELLORI (Giovanni Pietro) Columna antoniniana Marci Aurelii Antonini Augusti rebus gestis insignis germanis simul, et sarmatis, gemino bello devictis... in bibliotheca barbeerina asservatas a se cum antiquis ipsius columnae signis collatas Roma, se., Sd. In-4: engraved title, portrait of Rinaldo d'Este, dedication, and 76/77 numbered double-page plates (plate 5 missing). Mounted on tabs. Contemporary brown basane, spine ribbed and ornamented, with leather loss on boards, spine and edges, headpieces torn off, edges speckled red. Solid binding. Illustrated volume on the Antonine Column in Rome by Pietro Giovanni Bellori, commissioner of antiquities in Rome under Pope Clement X, antiquarian and librarian to Cristina di Svezia. Bellori was one of the most important biographers of Italian Baroque artists. The work comprises 77 plates by Bartoli showing details of the column (and 2 final unnumbered plates depicting medals). Provenances: 2 printed bookplates to be identified and a bookplate A. Finiela.
