Paulin de Nole (Bordeaux, c. 353 - Nole, 431) was a Gallo-Roman aristocrat and poet who, after a brilliant political career, embraced a religious life, becoming a priest and then bishop of Nole. In his day, he was the emblematic example of an aristocratic conversion to Christian asceticism. An important figure in the late Roman Empire, marked by barbarian invasions and the revival of paganism around 390, Paulin is venerated as a saint by both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.
