In-4: 27f., 1fb., 477pp. with one plate and numerous figures in the text. Light staining at head throughout.
Contemporary brown calf, spine ribbed and ornamented, headbands foxed, one bit cracked at the head, gilt roulette on the edges, small leather chips on the edges, small cardboard chip on one edge, minor wear, red edges.
Fifth edition of the "Principles of Philosophy", written by René Descartes in 1644, whose original Latin title is "Principia philosophiae". Descartes' aim was, in his words, to "give rigorous foundations to philosophy".
