Contemporary stiff vellum over boards, handwritten title on spine, blued edges. A good copy. First edition published and annotated by Théodore Godefroy, after the extremely rare original edition published in 1527. Famous history of the Chevalier written by Jacques de Mailles, "loyal servant", comrade-in-arms and secretary to Bayard, the famous "knight without fear or reproach" who was one of the heroes of the Italian wars under François I. Provenance: Armorial printed bookplate ("Libertas") of George Evans, 3rd Baron Carbery, Irish peer (died 1783).
