Paris, Houze, 1622. In-4: 4f, 514pp, 9f (table). Light rings. Old soft vellum, handwritten title on spine, minor defects. Rare first edition. These memoirs cover the period from 1567 to 1604. In 1570, he was responsible for negotiating the King's marriage contract with Elisabeth of Austria, and in 1573, for concluding the peace with the Protestants. Under Henri III, he retained his position, but in conflict with the Duc d'Epernon, he was deposed; he then joined the League, and only rallied to Henri IV on his conversion.
