Engraved title. Old-fashioned stiff vellum with covers, ornate smooth spine, central diamond-shaped gilt medallion with the coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam, double gilt fillet with spandrels framing, blue speckled edges. A fine copy. Roman history covering events from the Trojan War to the consulship of Marcus Vinicius. Provenance: Copy from the library of Alexis Jean Armand Mieulet de Lombrail (1828-1904), a native of Tarn-et-Garonne and a young aristocrat whose family came from the Garonne nobility. He attended a Catholic preparatory school in Versailles and espoused positivist ideas. He was a pupil of Auguste Comte.
