PETAU (A4060) Dionysii Petavii aurelianensis e societate Iesu rationarium temporum in parte duas, libros tredecim tributum. Paris, Cramoisy, 1636. 2 parts in one volume in-8: 12f, 701pp, 48f (index) - 4f, 307pp, 4f (index). Pagination errors in fine. Contemporary brown morocco, spine ribbed, title, gilt fillets and fleurons between boxes, 2 sets of double gilt fillets on boards framing a medallion with the coat of arms of the city of Lyon, gilt edges. Abridgement of the great Jesuit scholar's masterpiece "Opus de doctrina temporum" (1627). A4060 Petau studied in Paris under Scaliger and resigned his professorship to join the Society of Jesus. He spent most of his academic career as Master of Theology at the Collège de Clermont.
