SCUDERY (Georges de) Alaric, ou Rome Vaincue. Poëme Héroïque dédié à la Sérenissime Reyne de Suède. The Hague, van Ellinckhuysen, 1685. In-12: 17f, 340pp, 5f; illustrated with a frontispiece by Schoonebeck (a pupil of de Hooghe), a portrait of Christine of Sweden and 10 plates out of text. Basane fauve pastiche, ornate ribbed spine, brown title-piece, double gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt roulette on the edges and inside, gilt edges. A good copy. The finest edition of this epic poem. The author embarked on a military career, then left the army for letters to become a playwright and novelist.
