Paris, 1615] (title page missing). In folio: 5f. (title page missing), 462pp., 1fb., 463-1752cp. (pagination by columns), 1753-1786f. (pagination by leaves), 1(), 70f. (repertory), 45f. (table); illustrated with a portrait of Titus Live, 9 full-page plates (including a breadfruit tree?) in the pagination, an out-of-text map (map to show the places where the Romans extended their conquests...) and numerous figures in the text. Portrait of Henri III missing. 6 leaves angularly missing at foot, leaf PPP6 missing, tear to one leaf (LLL2), last table leaf torn with half missing. ½ marbled pastiche basane, spine ribbed, irons in the boxes, red title page. The work consists of: 10 books of the decades; Blaise de Vignère's annotations; descriptions of the peoples, nations and regions; cities, rivers, mountains, lakes, and forests, together with the other most significant places in Italy mentioned in this first decade. This is a translation with extensive commentary by Vigenère (more extensive than the part devoted to the translation), which makes this edition so interesting. He gives a history of Roman civilization, based on the work of the Italian historians and "antiquarians" of his time.
