The work consists of: 10 books of the decades; Blaise de Vignère's annotations; descriptions of the peoples, nations and regions; cities, rivers, mountains, lakes, and forests, together with the other most significant places in Italy mentioned in this first decade. This is a translation with extensive commentary by Vigenère (more extensive than the part devoted to the translation), which makes this edition so interesting. He gives a history of Roman civilization, based on the work of the Italian historians and "antiquarians" of his time.
