La Haye, Neaulme, 1736. 4 volumes in 2 volumes in-8: 8f., 371pp. - 2f., 396pp. / 2f., 450pp. - 2f., 503pp, (9)(book catalog); illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Turenne by Meissonnier and Schley and 12 folding plans or maps (all in the first two volumes). Small light ring in outer margin (in volume III). Contemporary brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated, one headband frayed, 2 headbands stretched, spines forced, 2 jaws split, rubbing, angular gilt monogram MH at head, red edges. Henri de La Tour, gentleman and famous French soldier, was known to posterity as Vicomte de Turenne. Marshal of France in 1643 and general marshal of the king's camps and armies in 1660, he was one of the finest generals under Louis XIII and then Louis XIV. A gifted strategist and military glory of the Grand Siècle, he was a master of the art of war.
