First edition of this important work on fortifications, one of the most complete of the first works of this kind published in France.
The work is divided into two parts, one devoted to the defense of places, the other to their attack.
The author took part in several battles and fortified several towns. The work is a kind of implementation of his system of fortifications, some of the essential elements of which Vauban adopted.
