WESTHEIMER (Bartholomaeus) - Lot 643
WESTHEIMER (Bartholomaeus) Phrases seu modi loquendi Divinae Scripturae, ex sanctis et orthodoxis scriptoribus [Phrases or Manners of Speaking of the Divine Scriptures, by Holy and Orthodox Writers]. Paris, Roigny, 1543. In-8: 260f., 4f. (index). Old handwritten notes in margins. Light half-tone at head. Old wet stamp of a seminary in Avignon. Contemporary fawn basane, spine ribbed, leather edges at head and foot, cold fillets and spandrels framing a central cold iron on each board, corners dulled and missing. Second edition of this rare study of current biblical terminology, first published in Antwerp in 1536. The compiler draws on traditional Christian sources in his explanations, and also uses Hebrew usage in many key terms and concepts. Bartholomäus Westheimer was a pastor in Mulhouse and Horbourg, as well as a bookseller and printer in Basel between 1536 and 1547.
