Bernard BOUTET de MONVEL (1881-1949) - Lot 46
Bernard BOUTET de MONVEL (1881-1949) Medallion portrait of the artist's grandmother Graphite drawing on bristol board. Signed on the right with the monogram BMB. Circa 1906. 19 x 19 cm. In this early drawing, Boutet de Monvel already displays all the elements of his virtuoso graphic style of the 1920s: ingresque line drawn with a sharp graphite on his favorite medium, bristol board, sharp contours, fluidity of work. This sheet can be related to La Convalescente, an intimate painting of the artist's grandmother bedridden after an illness, which earned him his first major public success and a state purchase (Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille).
