BERGERET (Jean) Flore des Basses-Pyrénées, or description of all the plants that grow naturally, that are or could be cultivated advantageously in the Basses-Pyrénées department. With observations on their usefulness in the rural and domestic economy, in the arts and in medicine. Pau, Véronèse, An XI. 2 volumes in-8: 4f., CLXXVI, 195pp. / 416pp. Some scattered spotting. ½ long-grained morocco with 19th-century fillets, slightly lightened ornate smooth spines, Gramont arms in super libris, gilt heads. A fine copy, untrimmed. First edition. The second enlarged edition, due to the author's descendants, dates from 1909. One of the very first books printed by Adolphe Véronèse, private secretary to General Serviez and later to General de Castellane, who bought Daumon's printing house in 1803. Before the flora proper, there is a "Cours élémentaire de botanique" occupying half of volume 1, and at the end of the same volume a "Mémoire lu au conseil d'Agriculture" concerning the servicing of the Pont-Long (Labarère 160). Provenance: Super-libris at foot of the de Gramont family. Former copy of Abbé Doazan (with a purchase invoice in his name dated 1977).
