Contemporary ½ red chagrin, gilt title and tomaisons on spine, gilt super libris at foot of Count Louis de Germont, marbled heads.
The first edition dates from 1853-55, the third from 1873, (4 vol. in-8). This 1860 edition is the only one with illustrations, the definitive edition, and a rare one. The number of 55 engravings announced on the title refers to 55 figures grouped on 39 plates. Barbe, echoed by Labarère, announces engravings in text, none of which we have seen in the collations (Labarère 371)(Barbe 147).
