[CLUB ALPIN FRANCAIS] - Lot 90
[CLUB ALPIN FRANCAIS]
Annuaire du Club Alpin Français. Paris, C.A.F., Hachette. We offer the complete collection from 1874 to 1903 + the tables written by LEMERCIER which cover the entire publication, i.e. 30 volumes of text and one of tables.
31 strong in-8 volumes of 500 to 700pp. each, with in- and out-of-text photo illustrations, lithographs, engravings, views and maps in black and color. The line panoramas and most of the drawings are by SCHRADER and SLOM. Noteworthy among the "large" illustrations: panorama du Piméné 1876 - Construction de la triangulation sur la frontière des Pyrénées 1877 - panorama du plat de la Selle, panorama de l'Oisans et carte des Pyrénées Espagnoles 1881 - Tableau du Pelvoux sur calque 1882 - Grand cañon du Colorado et feuille 3 et 5 de Schrader en 1883 - Panorama du glacier du Vignemale 1884 - feuille 1 de Schrader en 1890 - Panoramas des Grands Mulets, col du Bouquetin et des Bossons in 1888 - Hypsometric map of the Pyrenees and grotte de St Marcel in 1892 - Map of the Picos de Europa in 1893 - Panoramas of Mont Gélas and Pointe de Bonneval in 1896 - Map of Trayas and Panorama of Monts Maudits in 1897 - Panorama of Haute Gordolasque in 1899 - Panorama of Tschingelhorn in 1900 - Map of Puys Gris and panorama of the Allevard massif in 1903.
½ black chagrin, gilt title on spine, gilt heads, untrimmed. A very fine copy.
Complete collections are rare, especially when bound. Published annually from 1874 to 1903 in conjunction with the Bulletin du C.A.F., the latter being strictly a general information bulletin. The Annuaire section includes feature articles, reports on races and scientific or scenic excursions. This excellent publication brings together all the great names of pre-war Pyreneanism (to mention only the Pyrenees!), from Édouard WALLON to the CADIER brothers, via SCHRADER, RUSSELL, LEQUEUTRE, BRULLE, SAINT-SAUD, GOURDON, MARTEL, BOUILLE, PACKE, BELLOC, BRIET, BAYSSELLANCE, LE BONDIDIER, and many others. From 1905, the directory merged with the bulletin to form a single magazine: La Montagne. The early years were very Pyrenean (Brulle III 52 et seq.)(Labarère 37)(Perret 1823).
