Bigorre - Lot 105
Bigorre DAVEZAC MACAYA (Marie Armand Pascal d'AVEZAC de CASTERA de MACAYA ou) Essais Historiques sur le Bigorre, accompanied by Critical Remarks, Supporting Documents, Chronological and Genealogical Notes. Bagnères, Dossun, 1823. 2 volumes in-8 : XVIII, 294pp. / 2f., 312pp. ; one folding map out of text. ½ red 19th-century chagrin, ornate spine bands, gilt title and endpapers. There is only one early edition of this text. In it, DAVEZAC synthesizes the elements published on this region in the great texts of the past, from Mauran (whom he calls Mazières: "Sommaire description du pays et comté de Bigorre", a manuscript that was not published until 1887) to Deville (Annales de la Bigorre, 1818), and stands as the first complete and detailed work on Bigorre. Rosapelly devoted a monograph to this author in 1908 (Labarère 458).
