Bayonne - Lot 117
Bayonne DUCÉRÉ (Édouard) Topographical and anecdotal history of the streets of Bayonne. Bayonne, Lamaignère, 1887-96. 7 volumes small in-8: 360pp. / 352pp. / 354pp. / 368pp. /344pp. / 330pp. / 94pp. (supplement forming tables); the plan is missing. Autograph address from the author to M. G. Silva on the first 5 volumes. Contemporary ½ plum chagrin, title and gilt fillets on lightened smooth spines (for the first 5 volumes); ½ plum basane (slightly later and slightly larger than the other 5 volumes), title and gilt fillets on lightened smooth spines, publisher's covers preserved (the last two volumes appeared later and have been reunited under a slightly different binding though quite similar). Set of 6 bound volumes (the last two volumes reunited under a binding with the heading 6-7). First edition. This work, composed of articles published in the "Courrier de Bayonne", won a prize from the Académie de Bordeaux in 1900. Rightly esteemed, despite a few errors, for the abundance and diversity of the information it contains, it is perhaps Ducéré's most widely read work... (the first volume is the rarest, the supplement often missing). The complete set of 7 volumes is rare (Barbe 291).
