Not exclusively thermal, a good half is devoted to excursions. - FILHOL (Édouard): Eaux Minérales des Pyrénées. Recherches comprenant l'Etude de l'Action Thérapeutique, la Constitution Chimique de ses eaux et la Comparaison des Ressources que les Principaux Etablissements des Pyrénées offrent aux médecins. Toulouse, Feillès, Chauvin, 1853. In-12; 3 plates and 7 folding tables out of text. Contemporary ½ green basane, gilt title and fillets on spine, wear rubs. First edition. The second is entitled: "Recherches sur les Eaux Minérales des Pyrénées. OEuvre Posthume publiée par les soins de M. le Dr. Léon Joulin", Paris, Masson, 1888. Filhol was working on this second edition when death claimed him in June 1883. L. Joulin completed the work with notes left by the author. Filhol was the founder of the "Société des Sciences Physiques et Naturelles de Toulouse", director of the medical school and professor at the Toulouse Faculty of Science. Medical, topographical and picturesque. The author has read Russell and quotes him. This physician and director of the "Baignots" spa in Dax had published "Essai sur la Topographie Médicale et Statistique du Canton de Dax (Landes)" in 1879 and "Dax médical et pittoresque, guide du baigneur et du touriste" in 1893, which has been reprinted many times.
