[MINERAL WATERS - PYRENEES] Reunion of 5 works, some with fine provenances: - JAMES (Constantin): Guide Pratique aux Eaux Minérales de France, de Belgique, d'Allemagne, de Suisse, de Savoie, d'Italie et aux Bains de Mer... Second edition. Paris, Masson, 1853. In-8; frontispiece, one large fold-out map in fine. Contemporary navy chagrin, ornate ribbed spine, central gilt arms to identify, triple series of gilt fillets framing, gilt roulette on edges, fine inner lace, gilt edges. A good copy. The first edition dates from 1851. A fine copy with arms. This physician was born in Calvados in 1813. A pupil of Magendie, he traveled with him to Italy. He subsequently traveled extensively, and after 1844 his publications were mainly devoted to his observations on European mineral waters. This work bears witness to the growing popularity and popularity of spas in Europe in the mid-19th century. Not exclusively thermal, a good half is devoted to excursions. Provenances: Maurice Gourdon wetstamp and Gabriel La Plagne Barris printed bookplate. - BOUBÉE (Nérée): Itinéraire de la grande tournée des Bains en partant de Bigorre ou le voyage des Pyrénées réduit aux points les plus indispensables et au plus petit nombre de jours. In-12; one folding map and 4 lithographed plates by VIGNANCOUR after GORSE and CARPENTER. ½ period fawn basane, smooth spine decorated. According to the author, there are three editions of the same work: each has a different starting point, but the text is identical, only the order changes. In 1842, this author published "Bains et Courses de Luchon. Vrai Guide pour les Courses et les Promenades" and was planning "Bains et Courses de Bigorre" and "Bains et Courses de Cauterets, Barèges et Saint Sauveur", a detailed, sectorized version of our "Itinéraire". - LA GRANDVILLE (Marie Caroline de BEAUFFORT, wife) Countess: Journey to the Pyrenees.
