Mont-Perdu - Lot 154
Mont-Perdu G. B. Voyage Poétique au Mont Perdu ou à la Cime des Pyrénées by M.G.B. Dedicated to Mademoiselle L. de ***. Second edition. Paris, Eymery ; Pau, Perris ; Tarbes, Laglaise, 1823. In-8: 3f., 120 pp. Bradel-style burgundy boards, gilt title throughout, spine slightly soiled. A fine copy. Very rare travel report in the form of letters in prose and verse. The original edition was published in 1821 by Jeulin, imprimerie Dupont, but printed on the same dies without any changes apart from the title and verso of the faux-titre. Ours, the second edition, is just as rare as its predecessor. We should be able to identify this author by researching the village of Pujeard in Gironde (now Peujeard), where the author lived. Fourcassié, who has no knowledge of the original (Labarère 623), says curtly: "Fadasse prose and mirliton verses". Provenance: Abbé Doazan's old copy, with purchase invoice.
